Helping Seniors Recover with Restorative Nursing

As we age, our bodies and minds naturally undergo changes. Sometimes these changes can make it difficult to maintain our independence and quality of life. Whether it’s due to a stroke, surgery, illness, or injury, the road to recovery can often be challenging, especially for our beloved seniors. At Sunset Senior Living, we understand the struggles and worries that both seniors and their families face during these times.

We want you to know that you don’t have to face these challenges alone. We provide Restorative Nursing Care programs designed to help seniors regain their strength, mobility, and independence. Let’s take a look at how Restorative Nursing Care at Sunset Senior Living can help restore independence and quality of life for you or your loved one.

WHAT IS RESTORATIVE NURSING

Restorative nursing focuses on helping residents achieve as much independence as safely possible. Usually following release from physical, occupational, or speech rehabilitation services, restorative nursing programs help individuals transition what they’ve learned from therapy into their daily activities. Residents are also encouraged to retain the skills they’ve learned in the event therapy services are recommended again. These programs deliver interventions that promote independent functioning and an overall higher quality of life for residents.

At Sunset Senior Living, we focus on identifying and addressing the specific needs of each resident in order to help them achieve their goals for recovery. Our Restorative Nursing Program is specifically designed to help seniors overcome challenges that may be related to:

  • Stroke
  • Neurological disorders
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Major surgeries
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Debility following hospitalization
  • Falls and fall-related injuries
  • Orthopedic surgeries
  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • And more

RESTORATIVE NURSING AND YOU

After graduating from rehabilitation and therapy services, it is important to continue working toward high-functioning independence. Restorative nursing programs are nursing interventions that work toward achieving the highest level of physical, mental, and psychosocial function for each resident. Programs are unique to each person, and specialized care teams accommodate services to fit the needs of the individual. Examples of restorative goals include:

  • Increase residents’ independence
  • Improve physical, mental, and psychosocial function
  • Promote safety
  • Preserve function
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Minimize further deterioration
  • Prevent regress to condition before therapy
  • Enrich quality of life

Although therapy services and restorative nursing are different programs, they compliment each other to ultimately promote self-sufficiency, safety, and rehabilitation.
